Welcome to Quadrem Africa
Deon Mocke, Regional Vice President
In 2001, Quadrem Africa, based in Johannesburg, launched operations and started connecting buyers such as Anglo American and Impala Platinum to hundreds of suppliers in its first year. Since then the region has grown to a community of more than 70 buyer locations and 13,000 suppliers located around the country especially in the mining provinces of the North West, Northern Cape and Limpopo.
The new face of Quadrem Africa was unveiled in September 2006 through the merger of Quadrem International’s South African subsidiary with one of South Africa’s leading sourcing hubs, TradeWorld. This created the largest provider of trade leads in Africa, the largest digital marketplace in Africa and the world’s largest black-owned digital marketplace, as TradeWorld is wholly-owned by black empowerment company [TSS] Tactical Software Systems.
The merged company remains part of the Quadrem Global structure but will have 51% BEE shareholding through TSS – one of the leading black owned ICT companies in South Africa which is 100% black owned under leadership of CEO Danny Mackay.
Growth through synergy
The merger, which is a natural progression from the marketing alliance formed by the two companies in September 2004 sees the fusion of the companies’ respective technology strengths, resources and manpower with the vision to streamline procurement operations and unlock cost savings.
The merger also results in the expansion of the Quadrem Africa customer base to include locations in the three Cape provinces as well as KwaZulu-Natal, giving the company a large global and national footprint.
Quadrem Africa processes an average of 350,000 purchase orders and 600,000 requests for quotations valued at USD$850 million every year. Cooperative efforts between Quadrem Africa and TradeWorld have yielded 35 percent compounded annual growth for each respective business, over the past four years.
